The Northern Dynasties were a series of states that ruled northern China from 439 to 581 CE, it consisted of five major dynasties: the Northern Wei, the Eastern Wei, the Northern Qi, the Western Wei, and the Northern Zhou. All these dynasties were ruled by Xianbei regimes, except Northen Qi. They adopted many aspects of Chinese culture, such as Confucianism, Buddhism, and the imperial system, but also maintained their own distinct identities and customs. The Northern Dynasties had frequent wars with the Southern Dynasties, and also faced internal conflicts and rebellions, leading to their eventual collapse and reunification by the Sui Dynasty in 581 CE.
