The Eastern Han dynasty was the second phase of the Han dynasty in China, lasting from 25 to 220 CE. It was founded by Liu Xiu, who restored the Han Dynasty after the collapse of the short-lived Xin Dynasty. The Eastern Han is known for its cultural achievements, such as the invention of paper, the development of Confucianism and Daoism, and the flourishing of arts and literature. However, it also faced internal rebellions, external invasions, and corruption among the eunuchs and officials. The Eastern Han dynasty ended with the abdication of Emperor Xiaoxian and the rise of the Three Kingdoms period.
