The Qin dynasty (秦朝) was the first imperial dynasty of China that unified the country under a single ruler and a centralized administration, lasting from 221 to 207 BCE. The Qin dynasty was founded by Qin Shi Huang, who proclaimed himself the First Emperor after conquering the other six warring states. The Qin dynasty is known for its achievements in legal reforms, standardization of weights, measures, currency, and writing system, construction of the Great Wall and the Terracotta Army, suppression of dissent and literature as well as its harsh policies and brutal punishments. The Qin dynasty collapsed few years after the death of Qin Shi Huang, due to civil wars and rebellions that led to the rise of the Han dynasty.
