Chinese Myth: Nüwa Patched the Sky

People lived an abundant and happy life under the blessing of Nüwa for many years after human beings were created. However their peaceful life ended on the day the four giagantic pillars which had been supporting each corners of the sky broke.

The sky cracked, water flooded lowlands, fire erupted from earth, monsters and beasts were everywhere. People were suffering so much, they cried for help.

Nüwa (Chinese name: 女娲, Pinyin: nǚ wā) heard the people, she slew the monsters and beasts who were harming human lives before she rebuilt the four broken gigantic pillars with giant tortise's feet. She then placed the blue, white, yellow, red and black color stones collected from all over the world on a firewood stack that tall enough to touch the sky and litted the firewood with the fire from Kunlun Mountain.

The color stones soon melted and lava slowly flowed like syrup into the big crack on sky. Some time later, firewood was completely burnt and lava finally turned cool, the sky was perfectly fixed as if it had never been damaged.

The world was saved, people were living a good life again. Nüwa was so exhausted, she laid down and never woke up.
